Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS)

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) contributes to a predictable, safe school environment and a positive school climate.  PBIS is an evidenced based, tiered approach to addressing student behaviors through integrated behavioral data, systems, and practices.  It is not a curriculum, but rather a program that integrates across all aspects of the school day (in the classroom, on the playground, etc) to explicitly teach, reinforce, and correct student behaviors.

Four LUSD schools—Franklin, Loomis Grammar, Penryn, and Placer—use the PBIS program.  H. Clarke Powers and Loomis Basin Charter Schools utilize similar evidence-based practices tied to the International Baccalaureate (IB) attributes.  Ophir School fosters a safe, inclusive environment within their STEAM program based on their core values of Creativity, Achievement, Responsibility, and Empathy (CARE).
