Visual and Performing Arts Plan Visual and Performing Arts The mission for the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program is to provide for all students an articulated and distinctive program that engages learning and appreciation for music.
 
Goals for Classroom Music:
 • All students K-5 will have music with a music specialist.
 • Music teachers will be trained in the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education.
 • Music Teachers will be trained in Education Through Music (ETM).
 
Goals for Choir:
• All students in grades 4 – 8 will have the opportunity to sing in their school chorus one day a week.
• Students in grades 6 – 8 who have participated in chorus at least 2 years will have the opportunity to sing a ‘select’ choir one day a week.
 • Students in grades 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to participate in the CMEA Capitol Section Honor Choir.
 • Choir students in the select choir will have the opportunity to participate in the Golden Empire Music Festival.
 
 Goals for Band:
 • All students in grades 5 – 8 will have the opportunity to participate in band classes 2 days a week.
 • All students in grades 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to participate in advanced band 5 days a week.
• Band students will have the opportunity to participate in Music festivals and Honor Bands.
