Building Excellence in Education since 1856

Superintendent Sloane's Welcome Message

Superintendent Sloane's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Loomis Union School District!

It is an honor to serve as Superintendent of a district so deeply committed to student success and community partnership.

At LUSD, we take great pride in our reputation for academic excellence and in our commitment to educating the whole child. Beyond the classroom, students benefit from a wide array of co-curricular and extracurricular activities that foster creativity, collaboration, and personal growth. Every student receives instruction in music and physical education, and those in grades 4–8 can participate in band, choir, and sports through the Loomis Basin Athletic League. Thanks to the generous support of the Loomis Basin Education Foundation (LBEF) and our Parent Teacher Clubs (PTCs), students also enjoy enhanced opportunities in art, drama, hands-on science, technology, and other enriching programs that bring learning to life.

Our district’s strength lies in its people. Our talented staff are dedicated to meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of each child. Our School Board and district leaders are committed to providing the resources needed to ensure every school and every student thrives. And our families and community members contribute generously with their time, talents, and resources to support our schools.

LUSD is focused on preparing students to thrive in the 21st century. We offer innovative instructional programs, including two International Baccalaureate schools, Loomis Basin Charter and H. Clarke Powers, as well as the Ophir STEAM Academy, which emphasizes science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Our commitment to academic rigor, creativity, and innovation ensures every child receives a dynamic and challenging educational experience. In recent years, several of our schools have also been recognized as California Distinguished Schools, an honor that reflects the high standards and strong partnerships within our school communities.

Student safety remains a top priority. We take a proactive approach by regularly reviewing and refining our safety procedures, working closely with local law enforcement, and fostering safe, supportive school environments. All seven of our schools teach and promote positive student behavior every day. Five schools—Franklin, Ophir, Placer, Penryn, and Loomis Grammar — have received state recognition for their implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework.

I invite you to explore our website to learn more about the programs, people, and values that define LUSD. If you’re interested in joining our district community, please stop by our district office at 3290 Humphrey Road or call us at (916) 652-1800.

I look forward to working together to continue moving our district forward. Here’s to a great year ahead!

Sincerely,

Erika Sloane
